THE PROBLEM

Music producers often rely on multiple tools to complete a single sampling workflow. One tool may offer fast sampling and stems, another better drum-kit management, while hardware-inspired platforms provide stronger sound character but slower workflows.

This fragmentation forces producers to switch between tools, interrupting their creative flow and adding unnecessary complexity.

User Persona

SOLUTION

Chop House is an all-in-one sampling and beat-making platform designed to combine the sound and tactile character experienced producers value with the speed and simplicity expected by modern producers. It brings sample chopping, clean audio warping, stem separation, drum-kit creation, sound shaping, and sample management into one streamlined workflow.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS - BATTERY

Industry-standard drum sampler featuring deep layering and a cell-based workflow. It lacks in-app sample slicing and has not been updated in several years.

SERATO - SERATO SAMPLE

Excellent pitch- and time-stretch algorithms with cue‑point slicing, but it doesn’t let you save samples for later.

AKAI PRO - MPC SOFTWARE

Iconic pad-based sampling workflow with integrated effects, but overloaded with seldom-used features and a slower workflow than newer samplers.

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS - MACHINE

Tight hardware–software integration and flexible pattern sequencing, but updates are infrequent and it performs slower than newer sampler platforms.

KEY USER INSIGHTS

Workflow speed is a priority. Producers want to move from finding a sample to creating music with minimal interruption.

  1. Sound quality cannot be sacrificed for convenience. Experienced producers especially value warmth, punch, and hardware-like character.

  2. Clean audio manipulation matters. Producers expect warping and time-stretching to maintain audio quality with minimal artifacts.

  3. Producers are frustrated by fragmented workflows. Sampling, stem separation, drum programming, and kit creation often require multiple tools.

  4. Stems have become an important part of modern sampling. Users value quickly isolating elements of a sample without leaving their workflow.

  5. Experience influences workflow expectations. Hardware-oriented producers value familiar MPC-style interactions, while software-native producers prioritize simplicity and ease of use.

  6. Both user groups want hard-hitting drums. Despite differences in experience and workflow, punch and impact are shared expectations.

  7. Users want modern efficiency without losing creative control. Experienced producers want faster workflows without sacrificing the control and character they associate with hardware.

  8. An all-in-one workflow could reduce creative friction. Combining sampling, stems, audio manipulation, and drum-kit creation would reduce tool switching.

  9. Sound discovery could become part of the workflow. Uploading, recording, and eventually AI-generating sounds could give producers multiple ways to start creating without leaving the platform.

Chop House brings sampling, sound design, and performance into a single streamlined workflow, giving producers the flexibility to move from raw audio to a playable instrument without interrupting the creative process.

Flexible Sample Chopping

Quickly transform audio into playable slices using multiple chopping methods. Producers can fine-tune slice count, sensitivity, snap, fades, and playback behavior to create everything from precise chops to experimental arrangements.

128-Pad Workflow

Go beyond the traditional 16-pad limitation with access to up to 128 pads. Multiple pad banks give producers the space to organize chops, one-shots, drums, and complete kits while keeping the primary performance surface familiar.

Stem Separation

Separate a sample into vocals, drums, bass, and other elements directly within the sampling workflow. Individual stem controls allow producers to isolate, mute, blend, and reshape parts of an existing recording without moving between applications.

Audio Warping

Stretch and reshape samples to match the tempo and timing of a project. Integrated warping keeps timing adjustments within the same environment used for chopping and editing, reducing unnecessary workflow changes.

Drum Kit Building

Turn samples, chops, and one-shots into complete playable drum kits. Chop House bridges the gap between discovering a sound, editing it, and turning it into an instrument ready for production.

Sound Character

Shape the overall character of a kit with Clean, Warm, and Gritty sound profiles. Instead of requiring producers to build additional processing chains, Sound Character provides a fast way to move between transparent playback, warmer coloration, and more aggressive texture.

Pad & Global Editing

Producers can switch between editing a single pad and applying changes globally. Individual sounds can be shaped with level, filtering, envelopes, pitch, time, reverse, and other audio controls, while global editing provides broader control across the instrument. The goal was to give users access to many controls without cluttering the layout. To achieve this, users can toggle between pad-level and global adjustments and scroll horizontally to reveal additional controls without using extra vertical space.

Pads & Keys

Sounds can be performed using traditional drum pads or switched into a melodic keyboard layout. This allows the same sample to move naturally between rhythmic chopping and melodic performance.

Full-Sample Navigation

A compact waveform navigator provides an overview of the complete recording while the primary waveform remains focused on detailed editing. Producers can quickly move through longer samples without losing their position or context.

Light & Dark Interfaces

Chop House offers both light and dark interfaces while preserving the same hierarchy, component behavior, and interaction patterns across themes. This lets producers choose their preferred environment without a new learning curve. The light mode draws on the retro look and feel of 1990s drum machines (MPC 3000, 2500, 60), while the dark mode provides a modern aesthetic common in contemporary software favored by younger producers.

The experience was designed around a simple principle: give producers deep control when they need it without making that complexity visible all the time.
